YEREVAN. - 18,764 crimes were recorded in Armenia in 2016, Prosecutor General of Armenia Artur Davtyan stated on Friday, speaking at the discussion on the activity of the Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office in 2016.

In his words, 627 cases happen among 100,000 residents. According to the Prosecutor General, in this respect Armenia significantly differs from other countries of post-Soviet area: Kazakhstan (2032), Russia (1473), Ukraine (1397), Moldova (1180), Belarus (975), and Latvia (2327).

66 murders and 36 murder attempts were registered in the reporting year, that is 3,4 cases among 100,000 residents, Davtyan said.

“This index amounted to 7,2 in Russia, 5,4 in Moldova. 4,8 in Kazakhstan, 4,6 in Belarus, 4,2 in Ukraine, and 4,2 in Latvia,” Davtyan added.
