The Pentagon announced that U.S. forces killed a senior member of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria’s Afghanistan branch, CNN reported.

A July 11 airstrike in the country’s Kunar province killed Abu Sayed, the emir of ISIS, Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said in a statement.

According to her, the strike on the group's headquarters in eastern Afghanistan “also killed other ISIS members and will significantly disrupt the terror group's plans to expand its presence in Afghanistan.”
