YEREVAN.- The bill on "Biosafety of genetically modified organisms" was not adopted due to lobbying for the interests of Monsanto in Armenia, head of "Tapan eco-club" NGO Hrant Sargsyan told reporters on Monday.

According to him, the bill has been discussed in the public sector for four years. "There are people who worked with Monsanto in Armenia and did not allow this bill to be adopted 11 years," Sargsyan said, adding that the government itself was among those who  cooperated the Monsanto  company.

At the same time, the expert noted that the company Monsanto, which produces GMO seeds, has sold its products in Armenia since 2006 and most of  Armenians were unaware of Monsanto’s 20-year activities in the country.
