The political settlement underpinning Lebanon’s coalition government still stands, said Lebanese President Michel Aoun.

According to him, the “diplomatic and national campaign” to secure Hariri’s return had brought positive results, Reuters reported quoting a presidential source.

Saudi-allied Hariri said in the interview he would return to Lebanon within days. Hariri held out the possibility he could yet rescind his resignation if Hezbollah agreed to stay out of regional conflicts.

Hariri said he stepped down for the sake of the Lebanese national interests.
