About 12,000 houses were destroyed by earthquake in the west of Iran. More than 400 people died, said the Head of Relief and Rescue Organization of the Red Crescent Society Morteza Salimi, Daily Mail reported.
The earthquake damaged several historical sites and monuments, said the head of Cultural Heritage, Handcrafts and Tourism Organization Ali Asghar Mounesan.
President Hassan Rouhani visited Kermanshah on Tuesday to assess the situation. The Iranian president also visited Sarpol-e-Zahab, where the largest number of victims was recorded.
A magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred on Sunday near Iran-Iraq border. Tremors were recorded in 204 kilometres North-East of Baghdad and 104 kilometres West of the Iranian city of Kermanshah
According to various sources between 430 and 445 people died, about 7.1 thousand were injured.
