YEREVAN. – Armenia could become the first country in the South Caucasus to have biosphere reserves.

Uli Grebener, Director of the Mikhail Zhukov Foundation, on Monday told about the aforementioned to Armenian News-NEWS.am, during the conference on the concept for such reserves in the country.

He said the holding of such a conference is very important to Armenia because the opportunities for the creation of biosphere areas in the country, and which meet the requirements of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme, will be discussed and planned during this event.

He added that if a consensus is reached, Armenia will become the first country in the South Caucasus, where biosphere reserves will be established.
