Former Bosnian Croat general Slobodan Praljak who claimed to have taken poison just after his 20-year sentence was upheld by appeals judges at a U.N. war crimes tribunal, has died, AP reported.

The 72-year-old Slobodan Praljak, a former commander of Bosnian Croat forces in Bosnia’s 1992-95 war, drank from a small bottle or glass and yelled “I am not a war criminal” moments after judges at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia had confirmed his 20-year sentence on appeal Wednesday.

The appeal of Praljak and another five Bosnian Croats, who have been accused of committing military crimes, was considered on Wednesday in The Hague.  Back in 2013 Praljak was sentenced to 20 years in jail.
