YEREVAN. – The police actions, which were taken while neutralizing the person who had taken a young woman hostage at a billiard bar in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan on August 29, were legitimate.

Marina Ohanjanyan, spokesperson of the Special Investigation Service, told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the criminal case into this incident has been dropped on these very grounds.

“That is, if the action that has caused harm is considered legitimate under the criminal law, proceedings of the filed criminal case shall be subject to termination,” she explained.

Gor Hakobyan, 31, had taken a young woman hostage at the said billiard bar. But he was killed by a sniper shot during the police operation to free the hostage.
