YEREVAN. – A total of 1,172,402 tourists visited Armenia in the first nine months of 2017, whereas the number of visitors to neighboring Georgia exceeded 7,500,000 people.

According to official data by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, 19.7 percent of tourists visiting Armenia during that time period were Russian citizens, 15.7 percent were from Iran, 14.6 percent—from the United States, and those who visited Armenia from EU countries made up 21.4 percent.

Solely 2.8 percent came to Armenia from Georgia, whereas according to Georgian official data, Armenian citizens—a total of 1,718,016 people—were the foreigners who most visited Georgia in the year past. 

As a result, Armenian citizens have gone ahead of Azerbaijanis in the tourism industry of Georgia. 

To note, a total of 2,500,000 tourists visited Azerbaijan in 2017.
