YEREVAN. – Sometimes not only the opposition, but also the representatives of the ruling power give in to emotions and heat up the climate at the plenary sessions [of the National Assembly (NA)].

The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Friday noted the aforementioned at his meeting with members of the NA Council.

“A unique mission has befallen upon us toward transforming the system of government of Armenia,” he said, in particular, in his remarks at this event. “As of April 9, the Republic of Armenia is passing to a parliamentary system of government; and I must say that I’m satisfied with the works carried out in this direction by the National Assembly.

“The National Assembly is indeed the central and main platform for the social and political processes of Armenia.

“An important role is reserved to the National Assembly Council, the new body formed as a result of constitutional amendments.

“The National Assembly must act as an important platform for dialogue and joint work [between] the [parliamentary] majority and minority.

“We need to continue to strengthen tolerance [in Parliament].”
