YEREVAN. – The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) was successful, head of Armenian delegation to PACE Arpine Hovhannisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

She first stressed importance of the visit by the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and the points that he emphasized in his speech and during the Q&A session.

“This concerns the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the response to the Azerbaijani delegate, the commitments undertaken by Armenia in the fight against corruption, the continuation of the European political direction,” Hovhannisyan said.

She also noted that the PACE delegates, in fact, perceive Armenia as a reliable and equal partner, and recalled that Armenia is the only country that has an agreement with both the Eurasian Union and the EU.

As the head of the Armenian delegation noted, the winter session of the PACE was positive for the Armenian side as anti-Armenian wording were removed from the reports approved by the delegates.

Speaking about the election of Michele Nikocletti as PACE President, Arpine Hovhannisyan noted that the new PACE leadership at least will not continue the political course of Pedro Agramunt.

The new PACE chairman, according to her, can be characterized as modest, impartial, and in general, his position should be true to the format of the OSCE Minsk Group on the Karabakh settlement.
