Cuba has ratified the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

United Nations (UN) Secretary General António Guterres, to whom this document is entrusted, informed about the aforesaid, reported Interfax news agency.

Cuba has become the fifth country to ratify this treaty, ever since it was opened for signing in September 2017.

The first multilateral agreement was approved in July of the year past, at the UN, but without the participation of the United States and Russia.

A total of 126 countries have supported the relevant resolution, whereas the nuclear-weapon States—including Russia—and another thirty countries have voted against it.

China abstained during the voting.
