The Spanish police has detained one of the country's most notorious drug lords José Ramón Prado Bugallo (known also as Sito Miñanco), in a large-scale crackdown that led to shoot-outs with members of the trafficking ring, leaving four police officers injured, RIA Novosti reported.

Sito Miñanco was previously sentenced to 25 years in prison, but in 2015 the sentence was subsequently reduced.

He was now set to stand trial for alleged money laundering and drug trafficking at the national court, with the prosecution asking for a 16-year prison sentence.

Five people linked to Prado's drug clan were arrested in the Alpedrete raid, the sources added.
