Spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the election of Armen Sarkissian as the fourth president of Armenia.

Asked about further development of relations between the two countries, Zakharova said that commenting  on the election of the president is an absolute privilege of the presidential administration.

“Our relations with Armenia are both historical in nature, and their vector is envisaged by bilateral documents. We proceed from the fact that the development of relations will be such as it is enshrined in bilateral documents, papers following summits, meetings, negotiations, based primarily on the principles of well-being and interests of the peoples of the two countries,” Zakharova said.

The National Assembly of Armenia elected Armen Sarkissian as the fourth president of Armenia.
