YEREVAN. – France condemns any statement that hinders the negotiation process.

The French Ambassador to Armenia, Jonathan Lacôte, noted about the aforesaid at a press conference on Monday. He noted this reflecting on Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev’s recent statement with respect to their “taking back” Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan as well as the Zangezur region and the Lake Sevan area.

“I’m familiar with that statement; it was followed by the official [respective] statement of France,” stressed the ambassador. “It’s important to state that France has shown its reaction to that statement. It’s important to make a reference to France’s official statement, whereby it condemns any similar statement that hinders the [Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict] negotiation process. It [the official French statement] wasn’t ambiguous; France expressed its view clearly.”
