Amedeo Modigliani’s “Nu couché (sur le côté gauche)” masterpiece was sold for $157.2 million at Sotheby's in New York, The Guardian reported.

The painting became the fourth most expensive work of art sold at auction. The previous owner of the painting purchased it for $26.9 million.

Painted in 1917, three years before Modigliani’s death at the age of 35, the picture caused a scandal when exhibited at Modigliani’s first and only solo show at Galerie Berthe Weill in Paris that year.
