YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is on a working visit to Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday met with Michelle Bachelet, the newly appointed United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The parties lauded the close cooperation between Armenia and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and stressed their readiness to further expand this cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Reflecting on the recent velvet revolution in Armenia, FM Mnatsakanyan presented the priorities of the ongoing reforms by the country’s new government.

Bachelet, for her part, said the recent political processes in Armenia were at the focus of the OHCHR, and she expressed satisfaction with their peaceful nature.

Also, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed readiness to assist Armenia in the implementation of democratic reforms.

Also, the interlocutors lauded Armenia’s considerable contribution to the international community’s efforts toward the prevention of genocides and other crimes against humanity. In this connection, Mnatsakanyan briefed Bachelet on the preparations for the Third International Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide, and which Armenia’s capital city Yerevan will host on December 9.

Touching upon women’s rights, the FM noted that the respective Armenian national report has been developed.

And speaking on the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, FM Mnatsakanyan reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to achieve solely a pacific resolution to this conflict, and within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. In addition, he stressed that Artsakh has joined, ratified, and implements the UN fundamental documents on human rights. The Armenian FM added that human rights are universal, and the cooperation on their protection also needs to be universal.
