YEREVAN. – The new Ambassador of Switzerland to Armenia, Stefano Lazzarotto, on Friday presented his credentials to President Armen Sarkissian.

First, Sarkissian congratulated the ambassador on assuming this diplomatic mission and wished him success in this accountable work, press office of the President informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Noting that Armenia and Switzerland have historically formed friendly relations, the President considered the current level of political, economic, and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries to be satisfactory, and added that there is a great potential for further developing relations. Also, he expressed the hope that, thanks to the efforts by the newly-appointed ambassador, the agenda of mutual cooperation will expand to a greater extent.

Ambassador Lazzarotto, for his part, said friendly relations between the two countries are developing consistently, and the opening of the Swiss embassy in Armenia—in 2011—has greatly contributed to the expansion of constructive dialogue. In addition, the Swiss diplomat expressed readiness to do his utmost to further develop cooperation with Armenia.
