Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian has issued a congratulatory message on the recent snap election for the capital city Yerevan Council of Elders.

“I congratulate on carrying out the elections in line with the constitutional norms and principles,” the message reads, in particular. “This is New Armenia’s first step toward sweeping improvement of the electoral process, and which can serve as a basis for holding the next elections in a more harmonious climate of public trust.”

The Central Electoral Commission on Sunday publicized the final results of the snap Yerevan city council election that was conducted on September 23. Accordingly, My Step Alliance will have 57 seats, the Prosperous Armenia Party—5 seats, and Luys (Light) Alliance—3 seats in the 65-seat Yerevan Council of Elders.
