The main goal for us is to make membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) more effective, Armenia's acting PM Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with Russia24 .

“Unfortunately, the situation is not very stable in our region. CSTO is a security system. The CSTO member states de jure are our strategic allies, and it is very important for us to clarify mutual obligations.

Of course, our main partner in the CSTO is Russia in the military-technical and strategic sense, but clarifying the positions of our other partners, specifically on the Karabakh conflict and in terms of security in our region, is very important for us, ”Pashinyan said.

“Unfortunately, we have witnessed a situation where many CSTO member states in international organizations often voted against the interests of Armenia over the years . The problem is that our partners cannot blame us for voting against their interests.

But if we are strategic partners, then we must synchronize our positions, because we have a not very clear situation. Maybe, sometimes, claims appear to our partners, but I think that all these issues need to be discussed and resolved, ”he stressed.

"A lot of attention is focused on the issue of electing the CSTO Secretary General, but I want to say that this is the tip of the iceberg. The election of the CSTO Secretary General is not a very important issue. The essence of the organization is more important, ”Pashinyan informed.

According to him, the CSTO is a very important organization for Armenia, and the main goal is to increase the authority of the CSTO not only in political but also in military-strategic sense. “I hope that we will be able to achieve this goal,” he concluded.
