A possible devaluation of the Armenian dram and а threat of default in the country is disinformation, said Member of the Board of the Armenian Central Bank Artur Stepanyan.

Earlier, the Armenian media, referring to own sources, reported that in January, the national currency will devaluate by 20%, and default will be declared.

“Neither default nor devaluation is expected in Armenia; such statements are not rational,” Artur Stepanyan added.

According to the Central Bank statement, issued earlier, this kind of misinformation is aimed at creating negative expectations. The Central Bank urged media not to generate fake news on inflation, exchange rates, reserves, deposits, loans and the financial system.
