The Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia, Polad Bülbüloğlu, pins special hopes on Russia with respect to achieving a quick settlement to the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) conflict.

Speaking to Haqqin.az news agency, the diplomat commented on Russia’s demand that Azerbaijan regulate the matter of ethnic Armenian Russian citizens’ being able to visit Azerbaijan.

Bülbüloğlu said Azerbaijan’s respective position on this matter was due to its conflict with Armenia over Karabakh, and in connection with the safety of people.

The Azerbaijani ambassador assured, however, that ethnic Armenian Russian citizens and even Armenian citizens do participate in international events in Azerbaijan.

“The conflict needs to be resolved quickly, with a fair basis and within the framework of international law, and all these problems will automatically disappear,” Polad Bülbüloğlu added, in particular. “A dialogue between the two peoples [the Armenians and Azerbaijanis] is possible. But Russia should engage in maximum intermediary efforts so that the occupation policy be stopped.”
