Syrian Kurds rejected a proposal by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to create a safe area in the north of Syria.

"The safe areas in the north of Syria which are being talked about are linked with the developments witnessed in the region. At first, we have to know what is the threat and who will protect from the other, if the safe area is to preserve the security in northern Syria and protect the region from the threats of Turkey, then it can be said that there is a correct policy towards the north of Syria, but if it is the opposite, the talk and discussion here will be different,” Hawarnews reported quoting  Kurdish representative Aldar Khalil.

Erdogan, after talks with US President Donald Trump confirmed on Tuesday his intention to create a buffer zone in northern Syria. According to the President, Ankara is ready to provide security on the ground.

Control over the zone will reportedly be exercised by Turkey, official representative of the Turkish President, Ibrahim Kalin noted.
