YEREVAN. – Cases of domestic violence have dropped in Armenia over the course of the past ten years.

Lilit Makunts, head of the majority “My Step” Faction at the National Assembly, on Friday noted about the aforesaid at the Equal Opportunities Fair.

In her words, this is first of all due to the fact that women and girls in Armenia are now more engaged in the country’s labor market, and their financial independence has increased.

“All of this plays a role,” Makunts stressed. “In that sense, we need to continue women’s empowerment in terms of ensuring [their] involvement, decision-making, financial independence.”

Also, the MP noted that there are virtually no streets and statues in Armenia that are devoted to women, but she added that everything must go on a natural path.
