Malaysian was jailed for over 10 years in prison for insulting Islam and the Prophet Muhammad in social networks, Reuters reported referring to the police.

According to the source, this is the most severe punishment for a misdemeanor of this kind in this country, where the majority of the population are Muslims.

The police said that a man, whose name is not published, was seen in 10 cases of insulting the feelings of Muslims in social networks.

For such a violation of the law provides a year in prison or a fine of about $ 12,228. There are cases when both types of punishment are combined.

On a similar charge, another Internet user was detained. Hearings on his case will be held on Monday. Two more detainees petitioned for their innocence.

All four are accused of inciting racial hatred, incitement and abuse of social networks.
