On 19 March, Armenia’s Minister of Economic Development and Investments Tigran Khachatryan met with Director for Neighborhood East, Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission Lawrence Meredith, as reported the news service of the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments of the Republic of Armenia to NEWS.am.

Tigran Khachatryan presented the key targets of the Armenian government’s program, particularly the objectives to raise the level of competition and productivity and create quality jobs. In this context, the minister emphasized the importance of vocational and higher education and touched upon the issues on the development of small and medium enterprises.

Lawrence Meredith expressed gratitude to the minister for presenting important information and stated the priority programs that are part of the government’s agenda. The European official and the minister discussed the opportunities for export, the prospective sectors and the target markets and observed the perspectives of entering the market of the European Union. The parties exchanged views on high technologies, reprocessed produce, as well as the development of the potential for winemaking and light industry.

Tigran Khachatryan and Lawrence Meredith also discussed the opportunities for the growth of tourism and the improvement of infrastructures in Armenia and certain issues related to the organizing of the Armenia-EU Investment Forum.

Lawrence Meredith expressed gratitude to Tigran Khachatryan for the meeting and stated that the European Union is willing to support Armenia in the reforms that it has undertaken.
