On 21 March, Armenia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Minister for International Development Cooperation of Sweden Peter Eriksson.

Welcoming the guest’s first visit to Armenia, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan congratulated Peter Eriksson on being appointed to this position and wished him success.

The parties valued the dynamics of the existing political dialogue and reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in the bilateral and multilateral formats. They also attached special importance to the high-level contacts and the organizing of reciprocal visits.

Minister Mnatsakanyan also emphasized the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the advancement of the bilateral relations.

Minister Mnatsakanyan touched upon the latest interior political developments that unfolded in Armenia and the process of reforms that the government is implementing on the basis of the wide mandate of the people. He also set aside the creation of favorable conditions for an economic revolution hinged on high technologies and innovations as a priority of the government.

Armenia’s foreign minister talked about the preparations for the 23rd World Congress on Information Technology to be hosted in Yerevan in October and voiced hope that Sweden would show active participation in this event.

Issues on the perspectives for cooperation in the nature protection and alternative energy sectors were also on the agenda.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on the Armenia-EU partnership. In this context, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan emphasized that the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership serves as a good opportunity to address the recorded achievements and outline the perspectives for joint efforts.

At the interlocutor’s request, Armenia’s foreign minister presented Armenia’s approaches to and fundamental position on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
