Despite what the US will say, Turkey will not back away from purchasing the S-400 air defense system from Russia, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in an interview with TGRT television.

“As for the Patriot [air defense system by the US], if the US offers us [Turkey] good terms, we will be open to them,” Erdoğan added.

Turkey, a NATO ally, plans to buy Russia’s S-400 air defense system, but the US has been trying to convince Ankara to buy a Patriot air defense system instead.

Also, the US military has threatened to withhold delivery of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey if the latter goes through with the Russian purchase.

Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, however, has dismissed such threats and said that the decision to buy the S-400 has already been made.
