I believe the Prime Minister is against the “super prime-ministerial” system and doesn’t want to be a Prime Minister with “super powers”. This is what leader of the Bright Armenia faction Edmon Marukyan told journalists at the National Assembly on 17 April.

When told that he had stated that the “super prime-ministerial” system was for Serzh Sargsyan and now Nikol Pashinyan is the Prime Minister with those “super powers” with some insignificant changes and asked if Pashinyan is against the system, Marukyan gave an affirmative answer. “Yes, I believe he is against it, and this is why there is a need for a new system. Pashinyan has said that the National Security Service won’t become a ministry. As for the Police, we can discuss that later.”

Marukyan noted that his political party’s demands have been demands for institutional reforms. “We have never focused on individuals, meaning the institutional reforms are for everyone. Based on my assessment, the government isn’t fulfilling its promises.”
