As of today, it is not safe to refer to the public administration system as mobile and efficient. This is what Armenia’s Minister of Finance Atom Janjughazyan said while the package of bills on making amendments and supplements to the Law “On the structure and activities of the Government” and related laws was being discussed during the session of the National Assembly.

According to him, the current system is being turned into a needless burden for taxpayers. “It is also creating obstacles for raising the level of efficiency. The changes will be made in stages, and nobody is preparing to lay off all employees at once. The government isn’t preparing to work so quickly to lead the process to “irreversible consequences”,” the minister said.

According to the finance minister, the government has to regularly check the state institutions in order to make sure no ministry performs the same function. In his speech, Janjughazyan failed to mention an exact number of public servants who are expected to be laid off.
