Mexican authorities have condemned new US sanctions against Cuba, promising to take measures to protect their companies, the Cuban MFA said in a statement.

According to the MFA statement, the government will work to protect Mexican companies that have business interests in Cuba, Reuters reported

According to the official Mexico City, such a measure could strike at foreign companies doing business in Cuba and with Cuba.

Mexico reaffirms its support for ending the economic and trade embargo imposed against Cuba, the Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier, the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has announced that the US from May 2 will not extend the moratorium on the law, which allows to file claims against Cuba and foreign companies on property seized from US after the revolution on the island;

The reason for the introduction of new sanctions were accusations against the Cuban authorities in violation of human rights, as well as due to the support of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, whom the US considers illegitimate.
