YEREVAN. – Davit is my friend, too. But know well: There are no untouchable people in Armenia.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote this on his Facebook account, as he reflected on the bringing of criminal charges against Davit Sanasaryan, now former head of the State Oversight Service.

“The ‘brotherly’ mindset has much deeper roots in Armenia than oligarchy and the criminal,” he wrote, in particular. “Davit is my friend, too. But know well: There are no untouchable people in Armenia.

“And by the way, the law will be twice as strict toward all those who have stood before the people and spoken about lawfulness and justice, the impermissibility of ‘boundlessness’ [by someone in power] and backing.

“[But]I’m saying this without violating the presumption of innocence of anyone.”
