Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov commented on the reasons for the protest of Azerbaijan over the Eastern Partnership Declaration.

According to him, the question should be directed to the EU leadership and the Romanian presidency.

He noted that after much discussion, it was decided that this declaration was not sufficient for Azerbaijan.

“Especially when it comes to the principles specified in the Helsinki Final Act and the UN Charter ... It was decided to distribute the statement on behalf of the High Representative without reference to the Eastern Partnership countries,” he said.

According to publications in the media, a solemn declaration was signed at the end of the summit in Brussels, but the countries participating in the summit decided not to give the document a higher status. As a result, iy was not signed by representatives of the Eastern Partnership countries, and under the text only the signature of the head of EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini appeared. Also, according to press reports, official Baku blocked the communique from over Karabakh. And Ukraine and Georgia expressed complaints about the lack of reference to the aspirations for European integration of individual members of the Eastern Partnership.
