CSTO does not pose a serious security threat to NATO, said Secretary General of the alliance Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday, RIA Novosti reported.

As part of his visit to Australia, Stoltenberg took part in a discussion at a local research center. One participant asked whether the CSTO poses a significant threat to NATO.

According to him, it is not a very strong organization and some of the countries are partners of NATO.

Russia is part of the organization, but NATO sees no immediate threat against any of the allies, he added.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan.

Earlier, the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states called on the NATO foreign ministers to create a mechanism for regular consultations between the secretariats of the two organizations. The CSTO also urged NATO to closer cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.
