Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergey Shoygu highlighted the contribution of Armenian sappers and doctors to the provision of humanitarian aid to Syria at a meeting with Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan on Saturday, TASS reported.

Shoygu invited Tonoyan to exchange views not only on joint projects of military and military-technical cooperation but also on the joint work of sappers and doctors in providing humanitarian assistance in Syria.

The Russian minister noted that thousands of people received medical aid as Armenian surgeons performed several hundred surgical operations.

“This is a huge work that cannot be overlooked and contributes to the normalization of the situation in this region,” he said.

According to Shoygu, the strategic level of relations between the military departments of Russia and Armenia allows us to say that much remains to be done.
