Apple CEO Tim Cook presented spoke on the impact of tariffs on Chinese imports on the company, noting that its main rival Samsung manufactures most of the products in South Korea and does not have to pay tariffs.

Trump said Cook "made a good case" that tariffs could hurt Apple given that Samsung's products would not be subject to those same tariff, Business Insider reported. 

Last week, Trump announced that he would postpone the introduction of additional tariffs on Chinese imports. The new ten percent tariffs were supposed to take effect on September 1 and would affect the iPhone and iPad.

In May, Trump increased tariffs on Chinese imports by about $ 200 billion from 10 to 25 percent, but later canceled tariffs on steel and aluminum for Canada and Mexico.

"I thought he made a very compelling argument, so I'm thinking about it," Trump said of Cook, speaking with reporters at a New Jersey airport. "I can't predict the future, but I am optimistic that the countries will get through this. We are hoping that calm heads prevail."
