YEREVAN. – Capital city Yerevan police have detained six persons after the incident outside the National Assembly of Armenia, and between police officers and the activists who are protesting against the operation of the Amulsar gold mine; Police of Armenia reported this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

These persons were detained for not complying with the lawful demands of the police.

Activists fighting against the resumption of operations at the Amulsar mine attempted to block Marshal Baghramyan Avenue which runs along the parliament building, whereupon an incident occurred between them and the police.

As reported earlier, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Monday met with Jermuk town residents and environmentalists—and at the official residence of the President of Armenia, to discuss the matter of whether the Amulsar gold mine should resume operations. At the same time, however, a protest was staged outside this residence—and against the exploitation of this mine.

And after this discussion, Pashinyan is now meeting with members of the majority My Step faction in parliament, and regarding the same matter.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has publicized the results of the comprehensive audit report which was commissioned to the Advanced Resources Development (ELARD) Lebanese consultancy firm, and regarding any likelihood of environmental risks from the exploitation of the Amulsar gold-bearing quartzite mine of Armenia.

And as a result of this audit report, 16 points were noted in its conclusion, and which, if maintained, would make this mine’s environmental risks manageable.
