YEREVAN. – By the decision of the former head of Gndevaz village in Vayots Dzor Province, a plot of land was sold to Lydian Armenia company, thereby causing considerable damage to this rural community. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has noted this in a statement. 

Accordingly, knowing that Lydian Armenia was buying land, the then Gndevaz village prefect abused his official powers as such, and led the respective land auction organizing body.

And based on his decision and the procedure of the auction committee, on May 29, 2014 he sold for 410,130 drams—and through an auction—9.91 hectares from the community pasture land to his son, who, in turn, on May 26, 2015, sold this land to Lydian Armenia for 147,300,838 drams, thereby causing considerable damage to the community.

A criminal charge has been brought against the former mayor of Gndevaz village.

A signature bond to not leave Armenia has been selected as a pretrial measure for him.

During the investigation, 70,000,000 drams have been recovered from the aforesaid damage caused to this rural community.

The criminal investigation is still in progress.
