Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan on Tuesday visited Nubarashen Penitentiary Institution and, with the accompaniment of Head of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice Artur Goyunyan, toured the premises of the penitentiary institution and followed the renovation underway at the penitentiary institution, as reported the press service of the Ministry of Justice.

A couple of months ago, for the first time in the past decade, the Government of Armenia allocated AMD 270,000,000 from the State Budget of Armenia to improve the living conditions of convicts and detained persons at Nubarashen, Vardashen and Sevan Penitentiary Institutions.

The justice minister also learned about the conditions for keeping convicts and detainees, the opportunities for convicts’ primary healthcare and the conditions for preparing food and talked to the convicts.

The convicts sentenced to life raised the issues of improvement of the institution of conditional early release and the change of regimes, to which Rustam Badasyan stated that the Ministry of Justice is carrying out activities to help convicts sentenced to life realize the opportunities provided to them by law.
