Sri Lankan authorities canceled the emergency state introduced after the April 21 attacks, which killed 258 people, AFP reported.

President Maithripala Sirisena extended the state of emergency on the 22nd day of every month after the attacks on April 21. His administration confirmed that the president did not extend the state of emergency this month.

Police said all those directly responsible for the attacks were either killed or arrested.

This week, Tourism Minister John Amaratunga said he asked the president to soften the law to make it clear to foreigners that the situation in the country has returned to normal.
