Construction of the reservoir in Patara village is going to be the major guarantee for providing drinking water to the capital. This is what former Prime Minister of the Republic of Artsak (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic), leader of the Free Homeland political party Arayik Harutyunyan wrote on his Facebook page.

The following is the complete text:

“These days, overcoming the “crisis” of drinking water in Stepanakert and several communities of the republic with local approaches is not justified in the long run. In this sense, the construction of an internal network in communities is only a part of the plan and, according to professional observations, the works need to continue through the engagement of new water resources since there is a great risk that this undesired situation can be created every year due to the hot weather.

In the case of the capital, the major guarantee for a solution to the issue may be the construction of the reservoir in Patara village (all the design-budget documents are ready). If it is exploited, we will provide all citizens of Stepanakert with more quality drinking water 24 hours a day. Dozens of rural communities and thousands of hectares of arid lands of the Askeran region will always have drinking and irrigation water.

Taking into consideration the fact that this is a pressing issue, the Free Homeland political party has decided to work consistently with the Homeland parliamentary faction during the fall sitting in order to have the plan for construction of the reservoir included in the expenditures section of the 2020 State Budget.

This will be a fundamental issue for the Free Homeland political party.”
