YEREVAN. – The matter of taking the used nuclear fuel of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant to Russia is in the political dimension. Ashot Martirosyan, Chairman of the Armenian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, stated this at a press conference on Friday.

He stressed that this used nuclear fuel can be taken out of Armenia solely by railway.

“[But] it’s impossible to do that via Azerbaijan territory,” Martirosyan added. “[And] a decision to take [it] out via Georgia can create problems, taking into account the Abkhazian issue.

“Unless the problem is resolved at the political level, it’s meaningless to speak about the technical side of the matter.”
