Russia is not against new formats on Syria, if there is any sense in them, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, RIA Novosti reported.

According to him, the main thing is that there should be some sense from such meetings.

He also noted that during a meeting in Istanbul, French and German colleagues urged Russia and Turkey to help to complete the formation of the constitutional committee on Syria as soon as possible.

And when Russia and Turkey, with the support of our Iranian colleagues, secured the consent of the government and the opposition to the final list, it was our colleagues from the small group on Syria who made demarches before the UN Secretary General to urge him not to approve this list, because it seemed to them that several names from this list deserves to be put aside, or replaced by others, he added.

He noted that the constitutional committee will begin to work soon.
