Participants of the march in defense of Mount Amulsar in Yerevan declared September 20th as Environmental Mobilization and Justice Day. This is also the day that the residents of Jermuk town and the environmentalists for Mount Amulsar have set as the deadline for the government to take a decision on exploitation of the Amulsar gold mine.

During a spontaneous rally held under the traffic light near the government building, environmental activist Anna Shahbazyan declared that the government is passive and that the statements on the absence of legal grounds to prohibit exploitation of the mine are under scrutiny.

The participants of the demonstration called on the authorities to not postpone the issue and not sponsor the private company. They also declared September 20th as Environmental Mobilization and Justice Day and called on all citizens to prepare for various protests and demonstrations, become self-organized and come out to the streets to fight for environmental justice, and those who can’t come out to the streets should hang a flag in defense of Amulsar.
