YEREVAN. – The capital city Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction on Friday granted the Investigative Committee’s petition and ruled on the arrest of Levon Sargsyan, the brother of Armenia’s third President Serzh Sargsyan. Naira Harutyunyan, head of the Information and Public Relations Division of the Investigative Committee, told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Thus, two arrest decisions have been reached against Levon Sargsyan along the lines of the criminal cases being investigated by two different investigative agencies of Armenia.

The court had already ruled on his arrest within the framework of a criminal case that was opened at the Special Investigation Service a year ago, in which he was charged with illicit enrichment and concealing property that is subject to declaration.

And a few days ago, Levon Sargsyan and two proprietors of a company were indicted along the lines of the criminal case that has been launched in connection with misuse in the “North-South Road Corridor Investment Program” project, which aims at connecting Armenia’s southern border with its northern point by means of a 556km highway. Levon Sargsyan was charged under the Criminal Code articles on money laundering and taking a large bribe, and a decision was reached to include him in this criminal case as an accused. A search has been issued for Sargsyan.

Currently, criminal cases are investigated also regarding Levon Sargsyan’s son and daughter, Narek and Ani Sargsyan, as well as ex-President Serzh Sargsyan’s other brother, Aleksandr Sargsyan and his sons.
