A social media user by the name of Samvel Hakobyan has informed about a bezoar goat (bezoar ibex) that was caught in a trap in Armenia, econews.am reported.

“Its leg was completely cut off, on the way to Noravank [monastery],” he wrote and posted photos.

Bezoar goats are listed in Armenia’s Red Book of Animals, and, also, they are on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

According to the Red Book, there are about 1,000-1,500 bezoar goats in Armenia.

The Inspectorate for Nature Protection and Mineral Resources said its inspectors immediately went to the scene and confiscated the trap, but this bezoar goat was not found because Hakobyan had released this injured animal in the wild, and therefore it was not provided with veterinary assistance.

Despite prior agreement, Hakobyan has posted on the internet information about and photos of this bezoar goat getting caught in a trap, and that is why the poachers have not been found yet.

The respective reports will be transferred to law enforcement agencies.
