The Armenian authorities intend to follow a surgical, but institutional way in the matter of judicial reform, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told reporters in Vanadzor.

Asked to comment on the introduction of the vetting of judges, Pashinyan said that an anti-corruption strategy has been formed, which describes the mechanisms.

However, the concept of vetting is not indicated, since the form in this case anticipates the content. He recalled that two anti-corruption bodies will be created that will deal with the assessment of material and professional capabilities.

As a result of the discussions, they decided to go along with the surgical, but institutional way.

“We’ve decided no to rush. Our goal is to have an independent judiciary. So that it doesn’t turn out that we have replaced a system that is dependent on past authorities and a system that is dependent on us. It may be convenient, but this is not what we want, Pashinyan noted.
