Based on what happened during the previous trials, the previous rejection by the judge and the events that have been unfolding over the past year, today’s decision was expected. This is what Levon Kocharyan, son of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, told journalists today, talking about the court’s rejection of the motion to release Kocharyan on bail.

“I wasn’t surprised. We finally became convinced that there is no legal procedure here. This is merely a political process, and perhaps not merely an interior political process, but also an external political process,” he stated.

Talking about the motion that Kocharyan’s attorneys filed for the self-recusal of Judge Anna Danibekyan, Levon Kocharyan said the following: “If Judge Anna Danibekyan renders such decisions, I assume the government is pressuring her, and she is agreeing to render such decisions. She might not accept the motion for self-recusal.”

The judge ruled to postpone the trial until October 7.

Robert Kocharyan is accused of overthrowing constitutional order in Armenia in March 2008.
