A package of bills proposes to dissolve the National Water Council. This is what Armenia’s Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan said today during a discussion on the package of bills on making amendments to the Water Code and related laws in a second reading in the Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Governance, Agriculture and Nature Protection of the National Assembly of Armenia.

The minister particularly stated that the Ministry of Environment will have the powers of the Council and reminded that the Council’s objectives were to manage water resources and issue permits to use irrigation water in case of use of small hydroelectric stations and artesian wells of the Ararat Valley.

The Council was the major advisory body in the sector of water resource management and was ex officio managed by the Prime Minister of Armenia.

The parliamentary committee gave a positive conclusion of the bill for the second time.
