YEREVAN. – Russia is ready to support the option that will be acceptable to the parties involved in the Karabakh conflict settlement, and once the agreements are reached, Russia together with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, will become a guarantors of the settlement, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

During his visit to Yerevan Lavrov had a meeting with Armenian students where he touched upon the Karabakh settlement.

Russia is sincerely interested in peace and wants to see no deaths, open borders and restoration of economic relations.

“Together with the ongoing efforts to reduce military risks and facilitate possible cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, Russia is conducting consistent work to agree on the political principles for a settlement. We carry out our mediation mission without trying to impose any ready-made recipes on Armenia and Azerbaijan. The parties must agree on their own, without pressure from the outside, without artificial deadlines, without any arbitration. This is our firm position,” he said.

Lavrov said any problems can be solved based on universal values of dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation. He citied the example of an agreement signed over Caspian. The minister emphasized that Russian diplomacy keeps working to restore the culture of dialogue and compromise.
